Last month, Ryan Shackleton and Emily Keyes had the opportunity to attend the Commonwealth Association of Museum’s Triennial General Assembly in Calgary, AB. The Assembly was a great opportunity not only to visit Indigenous Heritage sites such as Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park / Áísínai’pi National Historic Site (highlighted above), but also to connect with heritage professionals from around the world. The three-day discussions centered on topics such as Canada 150, human remains management, and the role museums play in society. A highlight of the week included a special address from Calgary’s Mayor Naheed Nenshi, who encouraged participants to stay engaged in tough conversations about history.
As part of our outreach initiatives, we also volunteered our time to help operate CAM’s Twitter and Facebook pages. We were pleased to see participants engaging with both platforms, sharing their photos and thoughts on the discussions.
Thank you to all who attended and presented, and who helped make the event a success!
