Memories – whether those of our community elders, grandparents, or the founders of local businesses – contain important knowledge about who we are and how we got here. By taking the time to listen to and record these stories we can preserve our past for future generations, and strengthen connections between individuals and communities. Oral histories are key to gaining a better understanding of individual perspectives on the past that are not often found in history books.
Know History has extensive experience designing and conducting oral history interviews. Our associates conduct background research prior to interviewing, and develop intelligent, directed, and open-ended interview questions that complement and augment archival research. Know History can conduct interviews in English and French, and we use the latest technology to obtain the highest quality audio and video recordings.
We also provide oral history transcription services. Transcription is a specialized skill, requiring trained ears, attention to detail and research capacity. Working according to Baylor University guidelines, Know History’s associates carefully and methodically transcribe and verify oral histories, interviews, life stories and other historical recordings.
