On Sunday, May 5, the Know History team hopped on our bikes and laced up our walking shoes for the 2019 CN Cycle for CHEO. This was our second year participating in the event and we were thrilled to come together once again to support this meaningful cause. CN Cycle for CHEO raises money for pediatric cancer research, care, and support at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. This year, the event set a new fundraising record, raising over $1.1 million.
Know History was proud to contribute to this record-breaking achievement. Together, our team raised over $13,000! For the past few months, we have been hard at work on a host of fundraising initiatives. In late April, we spent a chilly spring morning at our Yard and Bake Sale, selling treasures and treats donated by team members and their families. For the first time, we hosted a Games Night at Ottawa’s The Loft Board Game Lounge. The competition didn’t stop there—as we battled friends, family, and coworkers in board games, we also tested our luck in a raffle with prizes from many generous donors (see below).
Team members had their own initiatives as well. For the second year, Nick Bridges encouraged donors to vote on his new beard style. Winning by just one vote, he is now rocking “the Van Ness.” Kirsty Walker crocheted up a storm, selling dish cloths for friends and family. Putting his strength to the test, Tom Van Dewark pledged to do a squat for every donation received. To match a portion of our earnings, Know History generously contributed over $4,000. We were blown away to see our fundraising target exceeded!
The team is grateful for the support of our friends, family, and everyone who helped us smash our goal. Special thank you to Brittney Bos and Leanne Gaudet for leading our team to fundraising victory! Thank you also to Jennifer Bate for organizing the Games Night and raffle; Elina Hill for hosting the Yard and Bake Sale; Jessica DiLaurenzio for her social media prowess; and Olga Novoa for her graphics expertise. Shout-out to our Calgary colleagues and our team members across the country for their generous support.
We can’t wait to see what we can accomplish next year!
