Know History Associate Emily Keyes attended Canada’s History 2013 Forum held at the Canadian War Museum this November. The forum featured talks and presentation from professors at Carleton University, University of Ottawa, and the University of Prince Edward Island, along with industry professionals from institutions such as the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. The theme of this year’s forum was “Is technology altering our history?”, and the forum was broken down into sessions addressing the new ways history is presented and taught using technology. The forum also featured hands on sessions in which attendees could interact with new technology such as 3D printers, interactive games, and apps for smart phones. The emerging message from all the presentations at this year’s forum was that the increased use of technology in the study, presentation, and instruction of history must be embraced rather than dismissed.
